If it feels like forever to you since OQO’s Model 02 hit the market, your instincts are pretty darn good. But if you were overly optimistic that the Atom-powered prototype it showed off back in August (pictured) would eventually become a reality, you — sir or madam — take today’s golden crown. In a recent Digital Experience! email blasted out to media members worldwide (full blurb is after the break), we’re very clearly told that OQO will be on hand to demonstrate its new Model 2+. Said UMPC will pack a 1.86GHz Intel Atom CPU, a touchscreen OLED display, 2GB of RAM and global 3G connectivity. OQO even goes so far as to say that it will offer performance “up to twice as fast as its predecessor.” Did our heart just skip a beat over a UMPC? Why, yes it did!

OQO, Inc. announces the new model 2+ with the Intel® Atom™ processor, the world’s first PC OLED display, and worldwide 3G capability. Based on the 1.86GHz Intel Atom processor and 2GB RAM, the OQO model 2+ offers performance up to twice as fast as its predecessor and includes an embedded touchscreen for easier input.

As 2009 heaves forbiddingly into view, it becomes us all to forswear all fashion mistakes and shape up to a new, radically slimmed pattern of spending. But what should that look like? As if economic forecasts aren’t enough to put the kibosh on the impulse buying of, say, £2,000 “It-bags”, we’re now also faced with figures to bring on a monumental case of green-tinged remorse over fast fashion.
Last week, it was reported that the British are throwing out a million tonnes of £10-and-under dresses, spangly tops and badly fitting jeans a year. And most of that unrecyclable tat is being shoved into landfill. Sackcloth and ashes, then? Penitential weeds for an era in which spending on clothes will be so socially disparaged that it will either cease or have to be heavily disguised? Believe it or not, if you look at the spring collections, sackcloth is already a choice.
There are hessian dresses by Miu Miu and Alessandro dell’Aqua conveniently ready-holed for the povero look in the case of Miu Miu. True, ashes haven’t yet emerged as a beauty trend, but just don’t be surprised…

I’ve always been a big Zelda fan and anything Zelda related excites me. That’s why a Zelda Messenger bag like this one is really going to do it for me. I’m done with shopping for this year, but hey I just can’t resist this bag with the Zelda map and the Triforce logo. I especially like it since I can use to lug around my laptop. It has an internal cell phone pocket, security pockets and side pockets. Even if the bag wasn’t this convenient, I’d get it because it’s all about showing my love for this legendary game! The Zelda Messenger bag is available for $45.

If you’re like me and bring your laptop with you when you travel, you’ve probably spent a lot of time hunting through the terminals for power sources and wi-fi service.
Here are a couple of sites to visit before - or during- your next trip. Hint: with airline delays at ridiculous levels, and with holiday and weather delays an almost certainty, you should check them out even if you think your layovers will be short short. You may spend more time in the airport than your ticket indicates.
The first site, atlarge.com, offers ratings and discussion of the essentials at airports around the world: internet and cell service and power points. It allows users to rate the location based on comfort (how comfy it is, but also how safe you feel in the area and what other services are nearby) and value per cost of the services offered. It looks like most people offer information about the various wifi services, the connection reliability, and cost. For example, atlarge users have pointed out one of my favorite things - free wifi in the JetBlue terminal at New York’s JFK airport.
As of this writing, there isn’t a lot of discussion about where to plug in, but that’s where the second site comes in: a wiki site called the airpower wiki. This site works like any other wiki, so you can read, add, or update the information about a given airport’s power sources, or add a new airport to the list. This site is a little easier to navigate quickly - which is important if you’re on a smartphone or need to find the power source before your laptop battery runs out - and I like that you can scratch out incorrect information.
Finally, check out flyertalk.com for every type of info you might need about travel in general. You won’t find what you’re looking for when on the run, but it’s a great resource to check out before you hit the road…er, terminal.
I’m still looking for a really good wiki site on places to sleep in various airports (I’ve been stranded more times than I care to count), but in the meantime, at least I’ll know where to park myself and surf the hours away while I wait for my next flight.

There has been a serious vulnerability that has been discovered on Nokia S60 phones that actually blocks all incoming messages, be it SMS or MMS. This is touted to be a “Remote SMS/MMS Denial of Service” and has also been dubbed the Curse of Silence. This exploit can be carried out simply by sending a basic, carefully tweaked SMS to any S60-based Nokia handset, including S60 2.6, 2.8, 3.0 and 3.1 devices. There is no cure apart from a hard reset, so be warned! On the other hand, we wouldn’t mind having this vulnerability exploited whenever we’re in the cinema or library, at least we can watch movies and read in peace.

Here’s the quickest way to grab a cold drink in case you are in a hurry, introducing the Cooper Cooler Rapid Beverage Chiller. With this machine all you need is just sixty seconds to be able to chill a can of beer or soda down to 43 degrees F, 90 times faster than a refrigerator and 40 times faster than a freezer. Pretty cool! All yours for just $60.

It is obvious that the Help Lock is one lock that comes in handy should you unfortunately fall down in the bath. The Help Lock doorknob works this way - you need to program in a phone number and timer when you use it for the first time, and when the timer runs out of seconds, the Help Lock will go nuts alerting all and sundry. Not too good if you take longer than usual after eating too much curry in the last meal, but great for older folks who might have accidentally slipped and knocked their noggin’ somewhere, rendering them unconscious. The alarm will sound for half a minute, where it will then call the pre-programmed phone number just in case there is an emergency. Too bad this is but a concept as at press time as it would come in handy in homes.

Just when you thought the ThinkPad W700ds was amazing with its dual display, along comes the Prime Gaming Laptop. This is a concept by Kyle Cherry though, and you get a trio of collapsible displays that offer a wide viewing angle whenever you want to engage in some gaming or watch a movie. In that mode, it features a 32:10 aspect ratio for superior visibility despite coming in the size of a 13″ notebook, boasting a 26″ display when fully open. The main display is a 10″ concealed OLED screen with a 16:10 aspect ratio, while left and right displays are Aux OLED screens with an 8:10 aspect ratio. The battery life’s on this thing will be short, that’s for sure.

The Oppo G11, also known as the Oppo Muse, has been slapped with an approximate price tag of $161 (after conversion from yuan, of course) that is pretty decent considering you are able to store up to 4GB worth of audio and video on this puppy. In addition, it comes equipped with a pair of Sennheiser MX400 headphones, which goes to show just how much value you get from the entire package. Video compatibility is exhaustive - you get AVI, RM/RMVB, FLV, WMV, MP4, MPG, MPEG, DAT, VOB and ASF. Would you consider the Oppo G11 as a purchase to reward yourself for staying off the booze during the recent holiday season?
