Engadget reader Raheem spotted this cheap shot on the door of Sony Centre in London, just in case anyone’s not sure of the latest developments in the high definition format war. Ouch, still, they may want to fax that over to Dreamworks Animation, cc: Jeffrey Katzenberg. Check after the break for another pic of the atrocity.

While face detection has become a common feature in modern digital cameras, Sony took one step ahead and developed the first camera with smile detection, the DSC-T300, and proudly announced it today.
The main attraction of this camera is certainly Sony’s new smile detection technology. So how does this new feature work? When the camera is set to smile detection mode, a user can select one out of the three preset smile detection levels (i.e. smile, grin, and great grin). After the shutter button is pressed, the camera will detect the target’s face and shoot the photo automatically once the chosen smile level is reached. Sounds cool to me, with this great feature I’ll never miss the smiles while shooting photos 
Besides the smile detection feature, Sony also implemented the newly developed iSCN “random scene recognition” feature. iSCN’s main goal is to minimize exposure failure in five modes: night scene portrait, night scene, night scene with tripod, backlit portrait and backlit.
Sony DSC-T300, which comes in three color options: gray, red and black, features 5x optical zoom with 10.1 mega-pixel resolution, 3.5” LCD, ±2.0EV with 1/3 increment, ISO range from 80 to 3200, and 15 MB internal memory with a 128 MB Memory Stick Duo included. This new model will be available from March 7th onwards

Mobiado Stealth Phone

The Mobiado Stealth cell phone looks a whole lot different from what we’re used to, especially the buttons that don’t look too comfortable at all to press. Features include :-
- Tri-band Symbian Series 40 cell phone
- Bluetooth connectivity
- microSD memory card slot
- 2 megapixel camera
- FM radio
- MP3 playback
Only 1,200 of these will be released, so that explains the £1,450 price tag. Well, you do get some of your money’s worth considering it is made out of aircraft aluminum which results in a strong and stiff yet light body.

While one generally associates “Everex” with “bargain basement,” we can’t exactly see the incredible value in the gPC mini. Hinted at late last month, this minuscule desktop is now getting all official on us and comes loaded with a 1.83GHz T2130 processor, 120GB hard drive, 512MB DDR2 RAM, a DVD writer and Intel’s GMA950 graphics set. Furthermore, it’s packin’ gigabit Ethernet, DVI / S-Video outs, FireWire, four USB 2.0 ports, a 4-in-1 multicard reader and audio / in out. Granted, you’ll have to deal with the gOS that comes loaded in, but hey, maybe that’s not such a thorn in some folks’ sides, anyway. Don’t worry, you’ve got until March 1st to mull it over, after which you can (hopefully) place your order at NewEgg.

X2 Technology Come To Helicopters

Sikorsky Aircraft’s X2 helicopter design could pave the way for the future, making those airborne vehicles move a whole lot faster than is possible at this point in time. This X2 technology claims to allow a helicopter to cruise comfortably at 250 knots, which is by far speedier than anything we have in our skies at the moment (helicopter-wise, of course). The X2 is actually a suite of systems that work together to achieve high speeds - their Blackhawk variant is capable of hitting 150 knots while the tilt-wing MV-22 Osprey will be able to knock 240 knots. The use of coaxial main motors in the design is what makes it possible, where torque is eliminated to enable the tail rotor to propel the helicopter forward just like how a propeller on a ship does.

MacBook Pro Unboxing and Teardown

A simple unboxing of the new MacBook Pro wasn’t enough for Anandtech. The engineers couldn’t stop themselves when they got down to the actual computer, and carried on until the innards were layed bare. Of course, there is a gallery up for your voyeuristic pleasure.
Anandtech is the company which brought us the skinny on the macbook air’s custom Intel chipset, which turned out to be a sneak preview of the mobile Penryn chipset. The final Penryn chip is what you will find inside the MacBook Pros and the speed-bumped MacBook.
In the picture above, you see the older, Merom chip on the left, and the new, 45nm Penryn on the right. The motherboard on which they sit is almost unchanged from the Santa Rosa days, leading Anandtech to say that “this is still considered to be a Santa Rosa based notebook”.

Creative ZEN Gets Price Cut

If you happen to want a Creative ZEN, then it is time to rejoice - in the UK, at least. Creative will be dropping the price of its ZEN portable media player, where the 4GB model now retails for £79.99 (a £10 discount) and the 8GB version finally plunges below the 100 quid mark at £99.99 from £119.99. You know what happens whenever there is a price drop - anticipation will be running high that Creative will soon roll out its “music sharing” model, hence clearing whatever inventory they have at the moment.

Each monitor is attached via Quick Release mounting brackets, so reconfiguration is easy. Additionally, you don’t need to worry about a web of cables, due to its integrated cable management.

MacBook And MacBook Pro Updated

Apple has updated their MacBook and MacBook Pro lines, bringing Intel’s latest Core 2 Duo Penryn processors, larger capacity hard drives, and a standard of 2GB of memory in the majority of the updated models. Prices start from $1,099 upwards for the new MacBook lineup where you have three models to choose from, while the MacBook Pro is definitely more expensive with a $1,999 starting price tag. Check out the specifications for both lines after the jump for all the models on offer. Are you going to make a new purchase?

We all knew this day was coming. Apple’s previous MacBook Pro revision was certainly getting long in the tooth, a MacBook spec bump never hurt anything, and hey, Penryn isn’t getting any younger. Still, it’s pretty obvious that quite a few of the Apple faithful feel like the MacBook Pro and its cute little MacBook sidekick are in some serious need of a form factor refresh, and perhaps a little bit of SSD. We can understand Apple not wanting to steal the macbook air’s thunder, and to be fair most major manufacturers put the new Penryn chips inside existing form factors, but that doesn’t mean it’s wrong for you to be upset. So, how do you really feel?
