Apparently when you’re saving the planet with an all-electric car, there’s no need to kill yourself over safety. The Tesla Roadster has been granted a waiver in regards to advanced air bags by the NHTSA, since the “public interest is served by encouraging the development of fuel-efficient and alternative-fueled vehicles.” Standard air bags are still included, and Tesla apparently tried to comply with the advanced requirement, but told the NHTSA that it’s in the hole financially, and would have to cancel the planned sedan and “ultimately have to terminate its operations” if forced to go through with the fancy air bags. All 2008 Roadsters have been pre-sold, and Tesla is supposed to start delivering the cars in Q1 2008.

From the bestselling cellphone in history to the most ignominious departure of a CEO not related to any criminal behavior, Motorola’s had a hell of a slide, but still, the latest speculation comes as a punch to the chin. Richard Windsor, an analyst with a firm called Nomura International, says that Moto may exit the handset business. On one hand, it could sell the division to Chinese investors, but on the other hand, not even the Chinese really know how to solve Moto’s problems. What happened, Motorola? Seriously, what in hell happened? [MarketWatch]

Everex’s site has been updated with a new CloudBook ship date. The little 9-inch, Via-based laptop with 7-inch display, 30GB disk, and 5-hours battery is now expected to pop with a gOS Rocket on Walmart.com and ZaReason.com February 15th. A day earlier would have required a pink version which nobody wants… at least not yet.
